White Sale

This year we are celebrating 134 years of white sales. Yes it was in 1878 when the first white sale took place in Philadelphia.  It was a tradition started at a local department store where in January linens would go on sale.  White Sale – the linens were white way back then.

Since 1878 the tradition has continued and has expanded from more than just linens into most household items. Oh, and linens they are not only white anymore.

Once a year my family receives their white sale gifts from Mamma.  It is a great time to purchase those luxurious dense thread count sheets that you just dive into at night and don’t want to get out of in the morning.

Thread Count

What you should know about thread counts prior to purchasing bedding?

A thread count means the number of threads woven together in one square inch.  The more the threads the softer, finer and better quality the bedding will be. I would say that you wouldn’t want to go under a 200, 300 is softer (great for quest rooms) but on my bed – yes you got it, I want 500 single-ply! But don’t be fooled – there are advertisements for 1200 thread count. It is not what you think. They are counting the fibers and not the actual threads.

My White Sale Choices

My daughter will probably choose the latest trending character such as Hello Kitty, Paul Frank or the Muppets.

The guest room this year will be outfitted in a new monochromatic blue look via Steve Madden.

Guest Etiquette

I will leave you with something to think about….

When you are invited to visit friends, what do you do with the sheets and towels at the end of your visit?  Here is an Etiquette Poll from one of my favorite sites RealSimple.com
